Officials: Firefighter Falls Though Floor Battling Staten Island Blaze

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Five firefighters were injured after a three-alarm fire broke out at a home in Staten Island Monday night, officials said.

Officials say the fire started in the basement of a house at 1053 Sinclair Avenue in the Huguenot section of Staten Island at around 9 p.m.

FDNY officials told CBS2's Tracee Carrasco the fire was so intense, it burned through 12 beams in the basement of the house.

The FDNY transmitted two mayday calls after a probationary firefighter fell through the floor into the fire while fighting the blaze.

According to the FDNY, a total of five firefighters were hurt during the blaze. The probationary officer was treated for second and third-degree burns.

The fire has since been contained, but firefighters remained on the scene as of 11 p.m.
