2 Stamford High School Administrators Being Fired After Teacher-Student Sex Scandal

STAMFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- Several school officials will be out of a job or disciplined in the wake of a sex scandal that rocked Stamford High School.

The shakeup, recommended in a report by the district's law firm, comes in response to the conviction of former English teacher Danielle Watkins, who was sentenced to five years in prison for having sex with a student.

Stamford High Principal Donna Valentine and Assistant Principal Roth Nordin will be fired pending a board vote, WCBS 880's Paul Murnane reported. Valentine and Nordin have been charged with failing to report the allegations to the proper authorities. They pleaded not guilty in October.

"She's covered it up, and now she'll just have to pay the price," one parent said of Valentine.

Assistant Superintendent Michael Fernandes has offered to resign, schools Superintendent Winifred Hamilton said.

Three other staffers are facing disciplinary action. Hamilton said others could be named.

One student said moving on is easier said than done.

"We have a wonderful interim principal now that's sort of bringing things back together," he said. "But it would be really nice to have somebody that stays."
