NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Controversial tight end Jeremy Shockey reportedly wants a second go-round in East Rutherford.
According to the New York Daily News, Shockey "has let the Giants know he would like to return" nearly four years after being traded from New York.
One former teammate wasn't too thrilled with the news Thursday morning -- and unwittingly sparked an all-out war of words on Twitter.
"No!!" Giants Ring of Honor member Amani Toomer tweeted to the Daily News' Gary Myers. "Shockey'I will never play4 you again!'he yelled at jerry Reese in 08. Let him keep his word. Bad teammate, worse person. (sic)"
Toomer targeted two more media members with the message: "Don't worry about it. My tweet is not going anywhere. I stand by what I say."
Shockey fired back with a few posts of his own: "@AmaniAToomer Go get a bucket of rocks and start throwing them at your glass house."
He also leveled an accusation about Toomer's personal life.
"Remember when his ex divorced him and he urinated on a her cloths I guess he's the good person," Shockey tweeted.
Toomer responded: "Shockey,Thanks 4 proving my statement about being a bad person. Lieing about my EX.Low blow.Enough said.Have a nice day& good luck as a FA. (sic)"
Shockey's on-field career with the Giants ended in December 2007, after Toomer rolled into the back of his leg against Washington, breaking the left fibula. New York went on to win the Super Bowl without their star tight end.
"Amani Toomer on Jeremy Shockey: Bad teammate, Haha," Shockey wrote. "Well he was the lazy one that broke my leg!!"
The 31-year-old, after his sixth season with the Giants, requested a trade in March of 2008 and got his wish that July. He was shipped to the New Orleans Saints, shortly after getting into a reported shouting match with general manager Jerry Reese during minicamp.
Shockey was released by the Saints last offseason and signed a one-year deal with Carolina. He suffered through a down year, recording only 37 catches for 455 yards and four touchdowns for the Panthers.
Picked No. 14 overall by the Giants in 2002, Shockey may have a tough time returning to the Giants -- if either side is even interested. On Wednesday, New York signed free agent Martellus Bennett, formerly of the Dallas Cowboys, to partially fill their need at tight end.
"It's funny how the Ny media still try's to make money off me!" Shockey tweeted. "Can anyone find a quote from me on me wanting to play for the GAINTS? (sic)"
