Severe Thunderstorms Reign Down On Tri-State Area
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Heavy downpours and lightning moved through the Tri-State Area Monday night.
Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for many parts of the Tri-State Area, including Manhattan, The Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and northern New Jersey. The warning for southeastern Nassau County and Suffolk County expired at 9:45 p.m.
AccuWeather meteorologist Carl Erickson said there were numerous reports of quarter and nickel sized hail from Hudson, Union and Essex counties. Parts of Brooklyn and Long Beach also saw hail.
Cloud to ground lightning was also a cause for concern during the storm, the National Weather Service said.
Erickson, who described some of the rain as "blinding downpours," said off-and-on rain was expected for the rest of Monday night.
