HARTFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYorkAP) - Arizona Sen. John McCain is urging Connecticut veterans to turn out and vote for Republican Senate candidate Linda McMahon, saying they can make a difference in a tight election.

The GOP's 2008 presidential candidate is appearing with McMahon at campaign events on Monday.
He told the "Veterans for Linda'' coalition at the Disabled American Veterans Hall in Danbury that he believes the former wrestling executive would be an ally in making the country strong. He said the Senate needs people who know the free enterprise system.
"I am excited about this candidate. I am excited about serving with her in the United States Senate. I am excited about the experience and knowledge and background that she brings to the United States Senate," McCain said Monday.
McCain had previously endorsed McMahon's rival in the GOP primary, former Congressman Christopher Shays.
Shays also attended the event to support McMahon. It is the first time he has appeared on behalf of his former rival since losing the August primary election.
