New York State Trooper Injured After Being Struck By Vehicle On RFK Bridge
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A New York State trooper opened fire Sunday after he was hit by a car on the RFK Bridge.
Traffic came to a halt and lanes were closed.
As CBS2's Kiran Dhillon reported, the investigation is still ongoing, but sources said the trooper encountered a silver Acura on the bridge at around 1 p.m. It remains unclear what prompted the contact, but the trooper was then struck by the vehicle.
He fired shots, wounding the driver.
The trooper was later taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. An MTA Bridge and Tunnel officer was also injured, but the officer's condition wasn't immediately clear, Dhillon reported.
The Acura was eventually found in Harlem after mounting a sidewalk. That's where police apprehended the 21-year-old driver and his 17-year-old male passenger.
The driver was then taken to Harlem hospital in unknown condition.
