Report: Tomlinson Will Return To Jets

New York (WFAN) - The Jets have decided to retain LaDainian Tomlinson for the 2011 season, the final year of his contract, according to multiple reports.

It makes plenty of sense for the Jets to bring back Tomlinson as a third-down specialist. His early-down carries figure to be reduced dramatically, however, with Shonn Green expected to emerge as New York's feature back.

Tomlinson is scheduled to earn $2.4 million in the final year of his two-year deal. The Jets don't have much money tied up in the running back position. Greene slated to earn $480,000 in base salary, while Joe McKnight has a $405,000 base salary for 2011.

Yesterday, news came that the Jets plan to release several high profile players, including veteran outside linebacker Jason Taylor, nose tackle Kris Jenkins, offensive tackle Damien Woody and outside linebacker-defensive end Vernon Gholston.
