CBS Sports: Knicks Close To Landing Tyson Chandler

NEW YORK (WFAN) – Ken Berger of CBSSports.com reports that the New York Knicks are close to completing a deal worth $58 million dollars over 4 years for free agent center Tyson Chandler.  The Golden State Warriors were believed to be in the lead for big man but the Knicks have pulled ahead in negotiations.

If signed, the Knicks are expected to exercise the amnesty clause in Chauncey Billups' contract or trade him to an interested suitor.  The Knicks would also attempt to move Ronnie Turiaf once Chandler is signed to free up extra cap space.

It's possible that the Knicks and could include Billups in a sign-and-trade deal to acquire Chandler or in a potential trade scenario for Chris Paul.

Various reports understand that the Knicks are considering including Amare Stoudemire in trade talks for Paul in order to bring the Hornets' All-Star guard to Madison Square Garden.  There is plenty of competition for Paul as the Los Angeles Lakers have maintained a strong interest in the coveted point guard.

It was originally thought that the Knicks were out of the running for Paul but dangling Stoudemire in trade talks could change things significantly.
