But that's exactly what's being explored in Putnam County.

Kent Fiscal Watch and Citizens United to Reform Education are holding a public meeting about making the six school districts in the county one.

Kent Fiscal Watch founding member Joyce Mitchell is for the idea.

"We have very high budgets. We're being taxed out of our homes," said Mitchell, who wants all of the administration offices to be consolidated. "They're all kinds of levels of administrative costs involved that have no direct bearing on classroom activity."

"Mahopac High School can still compete vigorously in sports with Carmel High School, but it's the administration that will change," she says.

Most say they want to hear all the facts before forming an opinion.

The public meeting is being held Thursday, May 26, 2011 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Mahopac Library, 668 Route 6, Mahopac, NY 10541.
