Prosecutors: Plainfield Police Officer Sold Stolen Computer Equipment
SOMERVILLE, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A veteran police officer in New Jersey was arrested last week for allegedly selling stolen computer equipment.
Vincent Saggese, who serves on the Plainfield Police Department, is charged with official misconduct and receiving stolen property, according to Somerset County prosecutors.
Saggese was arrested on Friday, but the arrest was made public on Monday.
According to officials, the 32-year-old Metuchen resident met twice with an undercover detective from prosecutor's office and negotiated for the sale of the equipment. He also allegedly accepted $250 from the detective and agreed to obtain the address of the owner of a license plate and provide the detective with a photo of that person.
Saggese was released on his own recognizance. It wasn't known if he had retained an attorney.
