NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police say a retired correction officer was killed in an early morning shooting in Queens.
It happened around 4:30 a.m. Friday in Queens Village at 108th Avenue between 226th and 227th streets.
When cops arrived, they found 50-year-old Jeffery Ragland with a gunshot wound to the chest, police said. He was taken to Long Island Jewish Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Police are questioning a man and woman in connection with the shooting. Sources told CBS 2 both are off duty correction officers.
Sources said the man allegedly shot Ragland to protect his girlfriend, Ragland's ex, 1010 WINS' Sonia Rincon reported. Sources said Ragland allegedly attacked her as she was leaving for work, Rincon reported.
No one else was injured. The investigation is ongoing.
