Man with knife shot by NYPD officers in Queens, police say
NYPD officers shot a man in Queens on Monday.
It happened at around 10:25 a.m. on Parsons Boulevard between 84th Drive and 85th Avenue in the Briarwood section.
Police officials said a family member called police to report a 22-year-old male with a mental health history was throwing glass against the wall. When officers arrived at the home, the 22-year-old, who was in the kitchen, grabbed a knife and approached the officers, police said.
"A family member attempted to restrain the male, but was unsuccessful, and the male continued to advance towards the officers," a police official said.
Officers repeatedly told him to drop the knife, and officers backed away, and continued to tell him to drop the knife, according to the NYPD. When he continued to approach, they fired, according to police.
Police said the whole thing was caught on body camera.
The man was taken to Jamaica Hospital and is expected to survive. The officers were not injured, but were taken to the hospital for evaluation.
A knife was recovered at the the scene.
