Brooklyn laundromat shooting leaves 1 dead, 1 injured; No arrests, NYPD says
One man is dead, and another is hospitalized after a Monday morning shooting in a Brooklyn laundromat.
It happened at 8 a.m. near Utica Avenue and Avenue J in the Flatlands section.
Police said a 41-year-old man was shot and transported to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A 68-year-old man's foot was grazed. He was transported to the hospital and was stable.
Officers said the suspect fled after the incident, and they don't know who it is.
Philip Denaud and a family member said they were inside the building when it happened.
"I was washing my clothes, and then the shots started coming. It was about five to six shots, and then we went to the floor and went into the bathroom, so we locked the door," he said.
Denaud said a handful of people hid there for 15 minutes. He said he didn't see the shooter.
"We were trying to save our life because we don't know where the shot is coming from," he said. "When the police came, we come out and there was someone dead."
The manager of the business said the victim was doing laundry with a woman when he was shot.
Customers came by all morning and early afternoon to do laundry, but were turned away from the crime scene until it reopened in the afternoon.
The NYPD hasn't made any arrests and is continuing to investigate.
