NYC Woman With A Unique Ability: She Literally Never Forgets A Thing

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Imagine being able to remember just about everything that's ever happened to you.

One New York City woman claims she can do just that.

Researchers say she's just one of a few people in the country and possibly the world who have this so-called superior memory.

CBS 2's Ann Mercogliano put her memory to the test.

When you talk to 38-year-old Louise Owen you'll notice quickly she barely blinks.

"I'm listening to your voice. I'm studying the details. For me, so much of what I pay attention to is the conversations," Owen said.

She said she stores information like scenes in a movie that she can go back to time and time again.

"It's kind of like time travel. That's the way I usually describe it," Owen said.

Owens calls what comes natural to her a gift not a curse. Only in recent years have researchers come up with a name for this -- superior autobiographical memory.

Superior or not, Mercogliano tried to stump Owen, asking her what the birth date is of the daughter of Elvis and Priscilla Presley. Her answer? Feb. 1. It turns out, Lisa Marie Presley was born on Feb. 1, 1968.

Mercogliano asked her where she sat in the fourth grade. Owen was able to recount every single detail.

"Fourth grade we actually had tables and I sat next to Stacey Olsen and across from Jason Somerol -- and we were at the table closest to the window," Owen said.

CBS is launching "Unforgettable," a new prime time police drama with a twist. Poppy Montgomery plays a character that uses her "superior memory" in solving crime. Owen said she's intrigued.

"I've heard a lot of buzz about it. I'll be curious to see what they do with it," she said.

Some people can't remember what they ate for breakfast, but not Owen.

"Either I'm the greatest liar in the world or telling the truth."

Mercogliano then asked Owen about the first question she initially asked upon their first phone conversation.

"On the phone? Where are you, where are you located?" Owen said with a laugh.

Sure enough, she was right.
