Police searching for driver after Dallas motorcycle officer struck, transported to hospital, sheriff's office says

A driver is wanted after a Dallas motorcycle officer was taken to the hospital following a crash early Monday morning, authorities confirmed to CBS News Texas.

According to the Dallas County Sheriff's Office, the incident happened at about 12:45 a.m. in the 2900 block of North Stemmons Freeway, near Inwood Road in Dallas, resulting in the northbound lanes being closed.

The sheriff's office said the officer was struck from behind by an unidentified vehicle, causing him to be thrown from his motorcycle.  When emergency crews arrived, the officer was reportedly up and walking after the incident, but he was taken to the hospital to be treated. He's expected to be OK, authorities told CBS News Texas.

The sheriff's office said that after the initial incident, the officer's motorcycle was struck a second time by another vehicle.

"This crash serves as a sobering reminder of how quickly routine calls can turn dangerous for the men and women who serve our city," Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux said in a statement.

Comeaux said the driver of the vehicle who hit the officer did not stop and is wanted by police. A description of the car hasn't been released at this time.

"If you have any information, we urge you to contact us immediately," said Comeaux.

Crime Stoppers will pay up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and indictment for this crime. Call 214-373-TIPS if you have any information.
