New Jersey Police Officer By Night, Fashion Designer By Day

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- There's a lot that stands out about Officer Sally Reaves.

Reaves is with the South Orange Police Department, and has been on the job for 13 years, but she actually enrolled in the police academy on a dare.

"I made it through the police academy and she gave me $1,000. That's great, I'm very competitive," Reaves told CBS2's Cindy Hsu.

She's so competitive, when she gets home from her night shift at 7:30 in the morning, she sleeps for a few hours, then starts her day job as a fashion designer.

Reaves said the whole thing started after she found herself borrowing items from her husband.

"He got tired of me borrowing his bow ties, so he said, 'Why don't you go buy your own?' So I said, 'Better yet, I'll make my own!'" Reaves recalled.

Just three months ago, the career woman launched her company "Sally Reaves Collection" and even shot a commercial. She designs bow ties, suspenders and even ascots, for men and women.

She has lots of fans on the force.

"I told her, 'You have to up my game for me,' so she in a sense did that, and as a result I got married, so I think I'm her number one fan," Officer Zorada McFadden said.

Right now Reaves sells online, but she dreams of getting into high-end stores and has a message for anyone who's given up pursuing their dream.

"Please don't give up guys, you can do it. If I can do it, you can do it," Reaves said.

Reaves said she plans on continuing her two careers.
