NFL Lockout May Force Jets To Relocate SUNY Cortland Training Camp

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- The NFL lockout has already claimed the 2011 rookie symposium.

SUNY Cortland's Jets training camp might be next to join the scrap heap.

"We're moving ahead, assuming the Jets will be coming," Fred Pierce, the school's director of public relations, told the Star-Ledger this week. "But also knowing everything is up in the air, knowing they may not be coming."

According to NFL.com, the Jets "are facing a July 1 deadline to apprise SUNY-Cortland ... of their plans for July and August."

"We're not expecting July 1," said Pierce. "It will be much later than that. It would be great if it were, but we know if this thing goes on, we're willing to be flexible."

Pierce added there will be a firm date for the Jets to decide, though it hasn't been decided yet. Campus facilities will be needed once students start to arrive in late August, leaving the club with "no wiggle room."

As the NFL lockout drags on through the summer, the Jets might be forced to turn to plan B: the club's practice facility in Florham Park, N.J.

"If it goes too long, they may very well have to have camp in New Jersey," Pierce said. "We certainly hope (camp in Cortland) happens. But we're Jets fans first and foremost, and we want them to do what's right for the team."
