New App Makes It Easier To Find, Report Potholes

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Any drivers around the five boroughs of New York City or in New Jersey can now download an app to help others spot where the potholes are.

As WCBS 880's Levon Putney reported, anyone with an Apple or Android device can download the MapplerK app, where they can see and submit pothole information using their smartphones.

The idea came from New Brunswick, N.J.-based mapping firm Vertices, who came up with it after creating an app after Superstorm Sandy for people to find gas stations.

"So we were very equipped to go right into mapping those potholes -- which we thought was a great idea to turn people's voluntary willingness to help out with other people into something real," said Vertices operations manager Keith Kim.

MapplerK will display a map of pinpointing where users have reported potholes.
