A recent study published in Newsday revealed that many of the property tax hikes in the county hit double-digits.
More than 21,000 Nassau homeowners saw an increase of over 10 percent with about 4,000 of those owners experiencing a hike of 20 percent.
A combination of school tax hikes and a plunge in assessed home values county-wide are cited as the main reasons for the extreme disparities, according to Newsday.
Experts said that the county's complex tax assessment system plays into the problem and is in critical need of repair.
