Mixed Verdict In Former Secaucus Mayor Dennis Elwell's Corruption Trial
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- A jury has returned a mixed verdict in the case of a northern New Jersey mayor caught up in the state's largest public corruption case.
Former Secaucus Mayor Dennis Elwell was found guilty Wednesday of accepting a $10,000 cash bribe from a man he thought was a developer. The jury found him not guilty on two extortion-related counts.
The federal jury reached its verdict Wednesday after deliberating for less than a full day.
Elwell's lawyers plan to appeal.
