Livery Cab Driver Shot During Attempted Robbery; Suspect Still At Large

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – A 57-year-old livery cab driver is recovering after being shot in the shoulder and hand during an attempted robbery.

Police say the incident happened at 11:05 a.m. at E. 172nd Street and Longfellow Avenue in the Bronx.

The victim was taken to Lincoln Hospital.

The suspect has not yet been found.

Fernando Matteo, president of the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers, told 1010 WINS the driver attempted to run down the suspect after he was shot.

"That driver that he shot courageously followed him and hit him with his car up against a fence so we believe that this guy is in a hospital at this moment and we want to make sure that we get this guy off the street," Matteo said.

Matteo is asking any other driver that may have picked up the suspect to contact police with information as to where they dropped him off.
