John Mayer Insists He Didn't Deserve To Be Trashed By Taylor Swift Song

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- It's not exactly a love story.

Taylor Swift, 22, has made one thing clear when it comes to her love interests and her songwriting: If you don't want her to write a song about you, don't do anything to deserve one.

The country music starlet famously bashed her ex-boyfriend Joe Jonas in her song "Forever and Always," and has even penned a song about her confrontation with Kanye West at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.

Swift, who insists she'll never directly reveal who her songs are about, hasn't said her scathing tune "Dear John" was written about John Mayer - she's only implied it.

But Mayer's pretty sure it was about him -- and he doesn't think that's cool.

In a new Rolling Stone interview, Mayer called "Dear John" cheap songwriting and said it made him feel terrible -- and he didn't deserve it.

Swift's song from the multiplatinum "Speak Now" album dresses down a former boyfriend. Swift has never confirmed that the pair dated and when asked pointedly refused to say that song was about Mayer.

Mayer says he did nothing to deserve the song and says Swift -- his former musical collaborator -- kicked him when he was down.

"It made me feel terrible," he said. "It was a really lousy thing to do."

Mayer's "Born and Raised," his first album in three years, debuted as the nation's best-selling album last week.
