Suspect Arrested In Stabbing Death Of Brooklyn Teen During Ithaca Brawl

ITHACA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Ithaca police say they have arrested a suspect in connection with the August stabbing death of a 19-year-old college student.

Nagee Green, 23, of Freeville has been charged with murder and assault in the death of Ithaca College student Anthony Nazaire, Ithaca police said in a statement Monday night.

Early on the morning of August 28, officers from the Cornell and Ithaca police departments responded to a fight at the intersection of Campus Road and College Avenue in Ithaca.

Nazaire and another male were found with stab wounds. Nazaire was taken to Cayuga Medical Center and pronounced dead. The other victim was taken Upstate Medical Center where he was treated and released.

As CBS2's Steve Langford reported at the time, Nazaire lived on Newkirk Avenue in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn. He was a business administration student at the college.

Nazaire's godfather, Jacques Dorsainvil, had told 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria that he was the pride of the family and was never in trouble.

"Always played with you, played with his mom like a friend," Dorsainvil said. "I don't know how we're going to deal with this."

Investigators said several fights took place after a student-organized event at Willard Straight Hall on the Cornell campus which was attended by several hundred people and that's when Nazaire and another Ithaca student were stabbed.

Students were shocked over the fatal stabbing.

"This is a campus we all see as a safe place -- I see as home and stuff," one Cornell student said. "For this to happen where we all go to class, where we all live, it's a shock and it's a tragedy for sure."

Nazaire was preparing to begin his sophomore year.
