Huge Pink Elephant Living Under Manhattan Bridge Looking For New Home
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Only in New York! A pink wooden elephant is up for adoption to anyone who can haul away the huge sculpture.
As CBS 2's Cindy Hsu reported, right underneath the Manhattan Bridge in DUMBO is another Dumbo. The huge big pink elephant has been in the Archway Plaza for months and is quite the star on social media.
"If you go on Instagram, this pink elephant is everywhere. People tweet about it, people post about it on Instagram. It's been a huge hit in the neighborhood," Kristin Labuz with the DUMBO Improvement District told Hsu.
He was white when he was first created by artist Hector Orellana for a festival last summer on Governor's Island. Then, he moved to DUMBO, was painted pink and given to the DUMBO Improvement District. The non-profit helps local businesses.
The elephant became a local star and even got dressed up for the holidays.
"It's kind of funny-looking so we like it," DUMBO resident Rose Frazier told Hsu.

Now, the elephant needs a home. An ad went up this week on Craigslist.
He's free to whomever can move him to a new home. The wooden elephant measures 6.5 feet tall and more than 13 feet long.
"The elephant quite literally weighs a ton. I don't know exactly how much he weighs but he's very heavy. He'll have to be we think lifted with a pallet jack at least," Alexandria Sica with the DUMBO Improvement District told Hsu.
Neighbors said they'll miss him.
"I was growing rather fond of it. I walk all sorts of animals, I never had an elephant job before," dog walker Rich Sporer told Hsu.
Estelle Ng said her kids would love him.
"I don't think it would fit in the kids' bedroom but I could try," she joked.
"I hope somebody from DUMBO keeps it and maybe they could put it in the park or something," said Frazier.
There is a chance the elephant will be destroyed if he's not adopted soon.
