Hoboken Officials To Investigate Recent Water Main Breaks
HOBOKEN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - After a string of four incidents with broken water mains in Hoboken, city leaders plan to take a closer look at the problems.
The Hoboken City Council will investigate the cause of the growing problem, Councilman Ravi Bhalla told WCBS 880's Jim Smith.
"We do have a very old infrastructure system which is fragile," Bhalla said.
Bhalla said that delicate system is being put to the test with new development. He said the goal is to investigate the cause of the problems and possible solutions.

"At the minimum, mitigate or lessen as much as possible the occurrence of these types of events in the future," said Bhalla.
Bhalla said the city council will be looking at short-term remedies as well as long-term capital infrastructure improvements.
"We're going to talk to the professionals, the experts, the engineers, the people at the appropriate agencies," Bhalla said. "We will be investigating and, if necessary, taking appropriate action."
There were two unrelated water main breaks on Thursday that knocked out water to much of the city. The boil water advisory triggered by Thursday's incidents was lifted on Saturday.
Another leak was reported in a pipe on Friday, while the fourth broken pipe occurred on Saturday.
