NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The son of New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio will be attending Yale University this fall.
McCray wrote "so excited for your next adventure'' and posted a photo of her smiling son holding a Yale sweatshirt.
Mayor de Blasio went to New York University.
"Chirlane and I are obviously thrilled that he'll be nearby. But Dante did his research, I was very impressed, much more than I ever did when it was my time to make the decision," he said.
Dante De Blasio To Attend Yale University
Seventeen-year-old Dante became a familiar face to New Yorkers during the stretch run of the 2013 mayoral campaign.
He starred in a political ad in which he said his father would be the best candidate to stop what he deemed the overuse of the police tactic known as stop and frisk.
That ad helped propel his father to City Hall and also won Dante a spot on TIME magazine's list of 16 most influential teens in 2013.
But Dante's actual appearances in the public eye have been rare since his father took office. He has largely focused on his studies at Brooklyn Tech High School, one of the city's elite public high schools. He and a classmate captured the state high school debate championship in March.
His older sister, Chiara, attends Santa Clara University in California.
