Cookies In Hand, Nassau Co. Girl Scouts Try To Break 'Cookie Dunk' Record

HICKSVILLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – Thousands of girls spent the day trying to make history using cookies on Long Island.

The Girl Scouts of Nassau County packed the Broadway Mall in Hicksville with cookies and cups in hand, on a mission to break the Guinness World Record for the largest "cookie dunk."

The current record is 2,281 and the Nassau County Girl Scouts are aiming for 2,500.

One Girl Scout accomplished not one, but two dreams Saturday.

"I've had two life-long dreams, breaking a world record and being on TV, but are happening right now," Erin Tomminello said, of Massapequa Park.

"This is our second attempt at setting a Girl Scout world record," Donna Ceravolo, CEO of the Nassau County Girl Scouts said.

In 2010, they set one at Roosevelt Field Mall when they used nearly 2,300 cookies to build the largest ever cookie tower.

It will take the girls about six months to find out if they are official record-holders.
