Commissioner Bratton Speaks On Building Trust With Community At NYC Event
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Working collaboratively with community groups, local businesses and residents will create trust in the police department and keep crime low, according to the city's new police commissioner.
Commissioner William Bratton made the remarks Wednesday at the Ford Foundation in Manhattan during an event thrown by the Local Initiatives Support Corporation, or LISC.
LISC is the nation's largest community development group and funds housing and community safety initiatives throughout the United States.
The commissioner said he had previously partnered with LISC on a community safety initiative in Brooklyn during his first stint as commissioner in 1994.
Bratton has vowed to focus resources on the small number of people committing the majority of crimes.
Attorney General Eric Holder, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan and police chiefs from New Haven, Conn., and Milwaukee, Wis., also spoke at the event.
