Columbia University Denies Access To NYPD To Put ShotSpotter Sensors On Campus
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The NYPD was denied access by Columbia University to put ShotSpotter sensors on its property.
WCBS 880's Stephanie Colombini reported police sources told the New York Daily News the Ivy League school didn't provide a reason for not letting the NYPD install the gunfire detectors on its rooftops.
They said they're concerned because Columbia owns so much land in Upper Manhattan, they're refusal could impact student safety as well as safety in surrounding neighborhoods.
A Columbia spokesperson told the Daily News that officials are continuing to review the proposal.
