By Ed Coleman

David Wright not only consistently takes the high road - he actually lives on it. Wright once again showed his class by nimbly navigating the minefield that Mets owner Fred Wipon had laid down with his callous off-hand remarks about Wright, Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran back in April. This is New York, and these are the Mets, so Wright certainly has not been immune to these situations - it's something he's been through many times as the face of the franchise.

But this was not a columnist in a local paper, or a beat writer, or a manager, or a teammate - this was the owner of the team adding his two cents in untimely fashion. Wright still feels it comes with the territory.

After all the public service work, the charity endeavors, the countless post-game interview sessions that Wright endured while his teammates weren't around to share the load, either because of injury or choosing to duck the questions, after all that - you would think that he might feel betrayed or his feelings towards the Mets organization might have changed.

Podcast
Wright was asked whether he thought Fred Wilpon was a good owner.
Podcast
Anyone who knows Wright knows that what really kills him is the absence of competition - sitting on the sidelines watching his teammates lose - or win - without him.

The term "superstar" is thrown around much too loosely these days. Someone who wins "American Idol" is tabbed a superstar when we didn't even know who he or she was three months before. Wright's pretty comfortable in his own skin, and he most definitely has the vote of one constituency.
Podcast
No need to get back to them. Or anyone else for that matter. As usual, Wright always says or does the right thing.
