Police Searching For Suspect In Chelsea Drive-By Shooting
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are searching for a suspect after a man was injured in a drive-by shooting through his car window in Chelsea.
It happened on Seventh Avenue and 17th Street around 5:30 a.m. Sunday.
Police said the 27-year-old man had just gotten behind the wheel after eating at all-night hot spot Cafeteria. Surveillance video appears to show a man approach the driver and open fire, hitting the victim in his back and shoulder, investigators said.
"I heard five very loud gunshots and then the car pulled away and going at a very fast speed because you could hear the engine revving," said witness Cara Craig.
The victim was then seen speeding away in the wrong direction up 7th Avenue where he eventually stopped.
Police sources and witnesses said the gunman got into another vehicle and took of, CBS2's Janelle Burrell reported. They said the victim is believed to be the intended target and frequented the trendy restaurant.
The victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
