NEW YORK (WFAN/AP) -- According to WFAN's Craig Carton, Randy Moss was in New Jersey Tuesday meeting with members of the Jets.
"Randy Moss, I've learned, was in Boston Monday, and was in New Jersey yesterday. Meaning, you've got yourself the Patriots and the Jets talking about Randy Moss," Carton announced alongside Boomer Esiason.
Carton cited unidentified sources, saying Moss was meeting "at the same spot Mark Sanchez likes to frequent near his home."
Meanwhile, Bob Glauber of Newsday reports that the Jets have not submitted a waiver claim for either Randy Moss or Shawne Merriman.
"League source says Jets have NOT put in a claim for Randy Moss or Shawne Merriman," Glauber tweeted.
The Cleveland Browns are also out of the running for Moss, reports The Plain Dealer's Tony Grossi.
The other 31 teams aside from Minnesota have until 4 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday to put in a claim on him and what's left of a contract that guaranteed him $6.4 million this year. Claiming priority is based on inverse order of the current standings, so the Patriots — who lead the league at 6-1 — would be last.
"There's no doubt in my mind, just to prevent the Patriots from going down that road again, the Jets will put a claim in for Randy Moss," Carton said.
Boomer added, "I would think that if he falls to the Jets, then the Jets would take him."
If no team claims him, Moss will be eligible to sign a new deal with any team and the Vikings would still be on the hook for nearly $4 million in remaining salary.
