NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Brooklyn infant was in critical condition Friday as police investigated whether or not he was the victim of a beating.
Police responded to a 911 call on Fountain Avenue early Friday morning in East New York to investigate a report of a 17-month-old child who wasn't breathing.
The boy was taken to Brookdale University Hospital. He was said to be suffering from internal and external injuries -- some old enough to suggest a pattern of abuse, 1010 WINS' Al Jones reported.

The infant's foster mother, Teyuana Cummings, was being questioned by police. One neighbor who spoke to Jones said he believed Cummings to be a caring person.
"I be around her a lot. She never, never did nothing like that," he said. "I've never even seen her discipline the child."
Another neighbor told Jones that police should be talking to Cummings' boyfriend, 19-year-old Kysheen Oliver, who the neighbor called "scary."
The city's Administration For Children's Services said it is investigating the case and has removed two other foster kids from the home.
