Deadly Explosion At Brooklyn Apartment Building Ruled Arson
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A deadly explosion at a Brooklyn apartment building has been ruled a case of arson, and police said one of the people killed in the blast was responsible.
The Oct. 3 blast flattened the building at 13th Avenue and 42nd Street in Borough Park and killed two women.
Investigators said one of those women -- 48-year-old Franchezka Figueroa -- poured gasoline on a stairwell and then lit the fumes, CBS2 reported.
Figueroa was in the middle of a bitter eviction dispute with her landlord at the time, investigators said.
Third-floor resident Ligia Puello, 64, was also killed in the explosion. Her body was found in the stairwell minutes after the blast.
At least 12 others were also injured.
