Ask a local where to go on a 'date to impress,' and Amanda's Restaurant will likely be the response. Situated in an elegantly restored brownstone, Amanda's classy decor and New American cuisine will delight on a first date or anniversary dinner. If your date doesn't mind an early start time, call ahead and reserve a table at 5:00 or 5:30 p.m. for the Early Dinner Special: 3-course dinner for two at $32 (Monday-Saturday). It's a smaller menu, but all the best, seasonal dishes are offered (as well as their amazing key lime pie for dessert). And you won't be rushed out the door for the late evening dinner crowd.

A crowd forms pretty quickly at this cozy restaurant by late morning, so be prepared most instances to wait a few minutes. Once you're seated, share bourbon-glazed donuts to start ($8), and then go for the variety of tasty eggs benedict dishes that await. Anthony David's is also one of the many BYOB restaurants in Hoboken and Jersey City with no corking fees, so you can turn your OJ into Mimosas or have a glass of wine or a beer anytime of day.

If you're walking faster than a stroll, you'll probably miss the below-the-street entrance of The Fig Tree. Although it's a relatively new restaurant (and was closed for a period of time after Hurricane Sandy), it's earning its reputation as a high-class neighborhood gem. Named for the actual fig tree that grows in the restaurant's back patio, The Fig Tree offers seasonal dishes, local ingredients and a romantic ambience that's sure to impress any date. Make sure to try the TFT Signature Fig Tree Cocktail ($14), or ask the staff for wine pairings recommendations on any of their dishes.

This hole in the wall restaurant on the corner of 4th and Bushwisk street is a French-food lovers' paradise. The tightly situated tables, candle light, and paintings strewed across the walls add to the quaint romantic vibe you'll feel as soon as you step in. It's another BYOB restaurant (which NEVER gets old) so stop at a liquor store for a bottle of wine to go along with your plates. Make sure you get the French Onion Soup ($8) before you dive into their many varieties of mussel dishes. It's rich, warm and the cheese is so perfectly broiled on top - you'll pick all of it off your bowl before they take the dish away.

The renaissance of 'hot-foodie restaurants' has come to Jersey City. Any date who has a fine appreciation for bread, cheese and tomato sauce is going to love coming to Razza. The Bread and Butter plate ($4) you'll order to start satisfying your carb craving will just make you even more excited for the pizza to come. And their pie known as the Santo ($18) with sausage, shaved onions and chili oil made Thrillist's list of America's top 33 pizzas.
