B&C Morning Show: Jose Reyes Goes Out Like A Chump

In an otherwise terrible season, the Mets actually had some juice surrounding Wednesday afternoon's season finale against the Reds.

Why, you ask? Because of Jose Reyes' quest to capture the NL batting title, a feat never accomplished by a player wearing a Mets uniform.

So spirits were high leading up to the Mets shortstop's first at-bat, and Reyes delivered with a bunt single.  With the hit, Reyes raised his average to .337, which was good enough for him.

Prior to the game, Reyes informed  Terry Collins that if he did manage to get a hit in first at-bat, he would then remove himself from the game, which he did - to a chorus of boos from the sparse crowd at Citi Field.

Leave it to the Mets to screw up what could, or should, have been a memorable moment in their franchise's history, but instead they once again end up with egg on their face.  Boomer & Craig tried to make sense of the decision by Reyes and the organization, but predictably had little luck doing so.  Boomer said it just did not feel right, while Craig explained it with one word: embarrassing.

The 'Not So Amazins' managed to win the game by the way by a score of 3-0 and finished the season with a record of 77-85, good for 4th in the NL East.

As for the action on the diamond that actually counted for something, the Yankees blew a 7-run lead to Tampa Bay, while the Boston spit the bit against the Orioles and because of that, the Red Sox will be going home and the Rays will be heading to Texas for Game 1 of the ALDS against the Rangers.

The Yankees will welcome Justin Verlander and the Detroit Tiger to the Stadium Friday night and they will have their 'hefty-lefty' CC Sabathia on the mound. Craig is calling it the 'Come Get Some Game.'

Over in the NL, the Braves  - who entered the game tied with Cardinals for the NL Wild Card - lost their season finale against the the NL East Champion Phillies (holla!!!) 4-3 and the aforementioned Cardinals shut-out the Astros 8-0.  Craig was grinning from ear-to-ear after watching both the Red Sox and the Braves complete historic collapses.

Now the Cardinals will head to Philadelphia to take on the Phillies (holla!!!) while the Diamondbacks will be in Milwaukee to battle the Brewers in the first round.

So after a wild Wednesday - a wild card Wednesday if you will - the guys opened up today's edition of the Extravaganza talkin' baseball, baseball and more baseball...
