B&C Morning Show: Jason Bay Ends Mets' Drought, Yankees Increase Their Lead

Jerry began his first update of the morning recapping the Mets' 14-3 win over the Tigers in Detroit last night and we got to hear the broadcast team on Wayne Hagin and Howie Rose (on the Mets Flagship Station - Sports Radio 66 WFAN) call Jason Bay's 4th inning grand slam.  It was the Mets' first grand slam after a 299-game drought and Howie got caught up in the moment a bit when the ball left the yard, breaking into his best Sanford & Son impression.  Mets manager Terry Collins was unaware of the grand slam drought and was also unaware such statistics were kept.

From there we heard Yankees radio play-by-play legend John Sterling call Nick Swisher's 3-run homer last night - which gave the Yankees a 7-0, 2nd inning lead and made "Swish-a-licious" feel pretty good.  Speaking of good, Swisher's teammate Mark Teixeira also went deep - his 24th round-tripper of the season - and afterwards he explained how difficult it is to be as good as he is.

Joe Girardi talked about his team playing hard - golly-gee he did, and of course Craig was sure to point-out the Yanks are 10-3 without their captain, Derek Jeter - who is scheduled to come off the DL today.  The Red Sox were shutout by Cliff Lee and the Phillies (holla!!!) so the Yanks now lead the AL East by 1.5 games.

And what would an update be these days without an update on the NFL labor dispute, which Jerry provided...
