Police: Man Robbed At Gunpoint While Using ATM

MILLBURN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A man was robbed at gunpoint by two masked thieves at an ATM in New Jersey, police said Wednesday.

The incident happened at around 9:30 p.m. Monday at the Chase Bank on Morris Turnpike in the Short Hills section of Millburn Township.

The victim told police he pulled up to the ATM and was approached by two people wearing masks. One had a gun and demanded the man hand over his money.

Police said the suspects made off with his wallet, containing $30 cash, credit cards and identification. They took off toward the back parking lot of a nearby Kings Supermarket.

The bank is right off Route 24 near the Short Hills Mall, the site of a deadly 2013 carjacking. Police said the location makes for an easy getaway for criminals, CBS2's Jessica Moore reported.

"I start to question even at night going to an ATM, because somebody could be outside waiting for you," Bob Groder, of Springfield, told Moore.

"It's obviously very scary to have it in your neighborhood to think that anyone can sneak up on you when you're just making a transaction at the bank," said Short Hills resident Nicole Jordan. "It probably would make me think twice about banking that way at night."

Anyone who can identified the alleged thieves is asked to call 973-564-7017.
