American Atheists Plan Billboards For Brooklyn, Paterson

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - An atheist group has announced plans to put up signs that say that God is a "myth".

American Atheists has said that they will put up signs in Brooklyn and Paterson. The signs are meant to target Jews and Muslims and will be printed in Hebrew and Arabic.

The Hebrew sign will be placed in a largely Jewish community near the Williamsburg Bridge, the Arabic sign will be placed near the Islamic Center of Passaic County.

Residents do not appear to be too disturbed by the signs. One Brooklyn woman told 1010 WINS reporter Holly Haerr that "freedom of speech is what American is all about."

The signs are not intended to offend, according to American Atheists, and will have the word God printed next to the message "You know it's a myth...and you have a choice."

This is not the first time that the group has advertised via billboard. In 2010 they sponsored a billboard that read "You KNOW it's a myth, this season, celebrate REASON!" near the Lincoln Tunnel.

More signs are currently planned for California and Chinatown.
