NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Former New York Yankees pitcher Brad Halsey has died, according to a tweet sent Tuesday from O'Connell Sports agency. He was 33.
Cause of death was not immediately known.
The Texas native was drafted by the Yankees in the 8th round of the 2002 draft. He debuted on June 19, 2004. Twelve days later, Halsey got the start for the game made famous by Derek Jeter's dive into the stands against Boston.
He was sent to the Arizona Diamondbacks as part of the Randy Johnson trade in January 2005.
Halsey went 14-19 with a 4.84 ERA in three seasons with New York, Arizona and Oakland.
