A Bridge, A Couple And A Lost Wedding Ring ...

NEW YORK (CBS 2) -- It was a blunder on the Brooklyn Bridge. A man proposing to his fiancé did not even get the words out before he dropped the diamond ring and it disappeared through the wooden slats.

The ordeal for the couple began Wednesday night when musician Trey Turner got down on one knee before Kelsey Kramer, a nurse from Brooklyn.

"He was behind me to surprise me and he was nervous," Kelsey said.

Then the unthinkable happened.

Kelsey told CBS 2's Dave Carlin, "I heard something and I heard a clink, turned around and he was white as snow and in shock and I hadn't even gotten to see it yet."

Trey and Kelsey looked down and realized the ring never made it to the water below. It was resting on a construction area just below. Trey continued proposing.

"He looked up and said will you marry me and I said of course I'll marry you and he said without a ring and I said of course," Kelsey said.

They called Department of Transportation officials who promised to find the ring.

A skeptical Trey and Kelsey got their initials tattooed on their ring fingers then and they parted.

Trey had to get back on the road with his band, "The Icarus Account." And Kelsey, who is a nurse, was about to travel to Washington, D.C. to visit her sister.

Then she got the phone call informing her of what she now calls "a miracle."

Bridge construction worker Doug Reese had found the ring and gave it to a Sabrina Lau, who works with the DOT. She called Kelsey who rushed to a spot steps away from where the ring was dropped.

"They went out their way to find it and I can't thank them enough," Kelsey said.‬

CBS 2 reached Trey by phone just before his concert in Muncie, Ind. He called himself a grateful, happy, albeit clumsy romantic.

"Now that it is a happy ending everyone has permission to make fun of me," Trey said.

"I'm now on cloud nine because we're getting married either way but now we get back what he worked so hard to get for us," Kelsey added.

She said she will only take this ring off once more to allow Trey to put it back on her finger.

Their wedding takes place in April in Florida, with someone assigned to keep an extra tight grip on the wedding rings.
