JFK Assassination: 50 Years Later
Today marks 50 years since the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Here is a look at how we are remembering the solemn occasion:
- 1010 WINS' Stan Brooks, then the station's assistant news director, remembers covering the event -- and shares why he didn't cry until hours after hearing the news
- WCBS 880's Irene Cornell describes informing people that the president had been shot in her first radio job in New York City.
- On Nov. 22, 1963, CBS News Chief Washington Correspondent Bob Schieffer was stationed in Texas, working as a reporter at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. He was in the newsroom when the mother of Lee Harvey Oswald called and asked for a ride to the police station in Dallas. WCBS 880's Steve Scott spoke with him about his memories of the day.

- Decades before Maurice "Mickey" Carroll was the Director of the Quinnipiac Poll, he was a reporter for the now-defunct Herald Tribune. On the day of Kennedy's assassination, Carroll was sent to Dallas, where he ended up a few feet from Jack Ruby when he shot and killed Lee Harvey Oswald at Dallas Police headquarters. He spoke with 1010 WINS' John Montone.
- As WCBS 880′s Sean Adams reported, lessons of courage and compassion learned from the 35th president are emphasized every day at John F. Kennedy Catholic High School in Somers.
