New Jersey Woman On A Mission To Do 40 Good Deeds Before 40th Birthday
MONTCLAIRE, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Turning 40 is often a cause for celebration, but one New Jersey woman chose to mark her birthday by giving back.
Nyree Miscia, of West Caldwell, is a giver, CBS2's Dave Carlin reports.
She brought presents and joy to Saint Joseph's Children's Hospital.
"I brought toys, and like dinosaurs," she said.
One patient named Jessie came down to the lobby and went right for the toy trucks and bubbles.
"Thank you Nyree," he said with a smile.
"You're welcome buddy," she replied.
Miscia's mission is to do something nice – something selfless.
For her upcoming 40th birthday on November 16, she decided to carry out 40 days of helping others.
"I figured I would do little things," she told Carlin. "They turned out not to be little things. Turned out to be a big deal."
Returning to Montclair to the postal shipping business she owns, Miscia took stock of what's left on her list. She has books, clothing, even eyeglasses to be donated.
Just a few days shy of her goal, she has given blood, planted trees, made and handed out soup at shelters and more.
"I'm giving, and it's for me. It's funny people think – what are you going to do for you? This is what I'm doing for me," she said.
All while running a shop with a husband and four kids.
But she said she's not exhausted, she's exhilarated that her 40th is not a typical milestone but a series of moments to feel great about.
Miscia enlisted the help of Jersey Cares, which matched her with some of the organizations she's made donations to.
