Police: 2 Men Slashed Near Night Club In Chelsea

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are on the hunt for two suspects after two men were slashed in Chelsea early Sunday morning.

The attack happened around 3:30 a.m. in Chelsea on the corner of 21st Street and Sixth Avenue, CBS2's Ilana Gold reported.

Investigators said the suspects were kicked out of nearby Slate night club after getting into a fight with the bouncers there.

Seconds later, the suspects randomly walked up to a 27-year-old man, started an argument with him, then slashed him in the hand, Gold reported. Police said a man who the suspects met in the club tried to intervene, but the suspects turned on him and slashed him in the chest and shoulders.

Both victims were taken to the hospital and are recovering, Gold reported.

"I wouldn't expect anything like that in this area, but now you just have to be a little more on your guard, you have to be a little more alert, especially at nighttime now," said Chelsea resident Ian Moore. "I mean, we have a couple of clubs right around here, so you just have to be even more alert, especially on the weekends. It kind of brings you back down to earth a little bit."

There have been 611 slashings and stabbings in the city since January -- a 21 percent jump compared to the same time last year.

Just a few weeks ago, a 24-year-old woman was slashed in the face in Chelsea just a few blocks away from this attack. And on Friday, a 60-year-old man was slashed in the face while getting on the subway in Midtown after he accidentally bumped into the suspect.

Police said they don't have a good description of the suspects in the Chelsea attack. They're asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 77-TIPS (8477). You can also submit a tip by logging onto Crime Stoppers website or text a tip to CRIMES (274637), then enter TIP577.
