2 Killed In Head-On Crash In Newark

NEWARK, N.J. (AP)-- Authorities say an SUV going the wrong way down a Newark highway slammed head on into another vehicle, killing two people.

The victims have been identified as Pingai Liwu of San Francisco, Calif., and 23-year-old Gustavo Cunha, of Elizabeth, N.J.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office says the crash occurred on Route 1 and 9 South in Newark late Monday night.

Liwu was a passenger in the back of the SUV. Cunha was a back seat passenger in the other vehicle.

The names of the drivers have not been released. The investigation remains ongoing and no charges have been filed.
