When our neighbors need help, Minnesotans are happy to lend a hand. WCCO is proud to partner with Xcel Energy for its yearly "Day of Service." It's a chance to volunteer and give back to our communities.
Volunteers were busy this afternoon at Surly Brewing Company in Minneapolis creating hygiene kits for People Serving People as part of Xcel Energy's Day of Service.
"It's the heart of south Minneapolis," president and CEO Scott Redd said. "My vison is that we attack aggressively the disparities that this city has seen and state has seen."
The LEDC is already seeing the growth in this neighborhood, as well as an increase in foot traffic, which only helps support the businesses within Plaza Del Sol.
Launched in 2010, Day of Service is an annual event where Xcel employees and community members serve their communities through various volunteer projects.
This weekend, community and corporations come together using golf as a tool to foster change, and a number of opportunities are being provided through Be the Change Golf Tournament.

1,600 volunteers from all over the state of Minnesota came out to give back to their communities Saturday.

We are three weeks away from Xcel Energy's Day of Service, and WCCO-TV is one of the participating sponsors. There are 60 projects across Minnesota that need volunteers.
Mark Saturday, Sept. 7 on your calendars for our Day of Service. Over 1,400 people are expected to volunteer on 60 different projects.
