Woman dies after being hit by car in northeastern Minnesota, officials say
Despite lifesaving efforts, a woman died after being hit by a car Friday evening, officials say.
According to a press release from the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, emergency personal were dispatched to the 7800 block of Blue Spruce Road in Meadowlands Township at 6:52 p.m. on a report of a person run over by a vehicle.
Upon arrival, officials say lifesaving efforts were attempted but the woman died at the scene.
The sheriff's office says they're continuing to investigate, but at this time the incident appears to be unintentional and all parties involved have been identified at this time.
According to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety website, 472 people died on Minnesota roads in 2024 — a 12% increase from 2023. The agency says the four leading causes of fatal car accidents impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving, and not wearing a seat belt.
"Seeing the high number of lives lost on our roads last year is heartbreaking, and it's easy to feel discouraged," said Minnesota Department of Public Safety Office of Traffic Safety Director Mike Hanson. "But we have the power to change this. Every better choice we make behind the wheel means more lives saved."
