Sunny, seasonable start to Minnesota State Fair ahead of rainy overnight
Expect a beautiful start to the Minnesota State Fair on Thursday, with sunshine and seasonable temperatures topping off in the low 80s.
Any rain stays across far northern Minnesota with a cold front that will eventually drop south on Thursday night.
A tornado warning was issued for north central Traverse County shortly after 5:30 p.m. which has since expired. The National Weather Service says weather spotters reported a tornado on the ground near Rosholt, South Dakota.
Rain chances pick up across central Minnesota overnight Friday before spotty showers and storms become possible in the morning and afternoon hours across the Twin Cities. The extra clouds will keep highs in the upper 70s.
That front clears the area by evening with winds and cooler temps becoming the bigger story for the weekend. Gusts from the northwest will reach 30 mph Saturday, keeping highs closer to 70.
For Sunday and Monday, temps stay in the 60s — making it the first time it's been that cool for the fair since 2021.
A stray shower is possible Sunday, otherwise the forecast remains dry into next week with temps gradually rebounding back into the mid 70s by Wednesday.
As of now, it looks like wildfire smoke and air quality won't be a big issue either.
