Minnesota Driver's License May Soon Not Be Enough To Fly
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Under a new federal proposal, Minnesota's driver's licenses may not be enough identification to fly.
Congress passed a national ID standard in 2005. But Minnesota legislators passed a law exempting the state from that federal standard because of safety concerns.
The Department of Homeland Security now wants Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport security to use the federal standard. When that goes into effect, most Minnesotans would need a second form of identification, like a passport.
Federal officials haven't yet decided how soon this change will be made.
