Man Gets 66 Years For Killing Mahnomen Couple

MAHNOMEN, Minn. (AP) -- A man has been sentenced to 66 years in prison for the shooting deaths of a rural northwest Minnesota couple.

Fifty-three-year-old Timothy Thorson is charged with second-degree murder in the killings last week of 72-year-old Francis Lundon and his 71-year-old wife, Ethyl, of rural Mahnomen in September.

According to a criminal complaint, Thorson, a recovering drug addict, had been given information that drug dealers were living in the home. He allegedly intended to rob the dealers.

WDAY-TV in Fargo, N.D. reported that Thorson confessed to the murders.

During the hearing Wednesday, he turned to the family and apologized and told them he'd let the family carry out the death sentence if the state had it.
